Play the original on Switch Online
On Switch 1 and on Switch 2, the 1998 Ocarina of Time is in the N64 Nintendo Classics library. It needs Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. A base membership is not enough. The 2026 remake is a separate Switch 2 purchase and is not part of that library.

Find the original version
- Check that the Nintendo Account on your console has an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.
- Find Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Classics in the Nintendo eShop. It is the N64 library app, rather than the 2026 game’s standalone product.
- Use the Ocarina of Time entry in that library for the original game. The 2026 remake requires its separate Switch 2 purchase.
What you are actually launching
The Classics app launches the 1998 game. Nintendo’s Classics page says the library runs on Switch and Switch 2. On Switch 2 the same page lists rewind with ZL and ZR, a CRT filter, and GameChat. Those extras are for the Classics version. They are not features of the 2026 remake.
Membership prices I could pin down
The US membership page lists $49.99 a year for an individual Expansion Pack and $79.99 for a family plan. The UK Expansion Pack page lists £34.99 and £59.99. I am not copying a euro or yen membership price onto this page without a second reading. Prices can change; the figures here are the ones on those pages when this guide was checked on November 3, 2026.
What this does not include
- Master Quest is not in the N64 Classics copy. The 3DS cartridge is the recent official way to play it. See Master Quest.
- The 2026 remake is sold on its own. The Switch 2 page covers that edition.
- The 1998 dates explain which historical release this library copy represents.
